Is working in an office destroying your physical health?

I spend at least 7 hours of the day sitting at a desk and recently I've been concerned about the effect it's having on my physical health. To make things worse I believe the amount daylight I'm missing out on during the day is effecting my mental health and sleep pattern. I've read that we should be talking 10,000 steps or getting 30 minutes of exercise per day, a target I'm far from hitting.
Should we be more concerned out our physical health if we're working in an office and should companies be doing more to improve our sedentary lifestyles?
