Taking time off work due to mental health illness

James, 6 months ago

I've taken quite a bit of time off work due to poor mental health over the years but often used physical illness related excuses. I may be wrong, and correct me if you think I am, but companies are much more empathetic towards physical illness.

Stress, anxiety and depression are serious, daily struggles for me. Some days I'm fine and some days I'm not. Some days I can't face sitting at a desk for seven hours.

Have you ever taken time off work due to mental health illness and told your boss the true reason why? Have you ever used physical health as an excuse for mental?
